Freedom of Information

Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information (FOI) process is part of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and the Freedom of Information and Protection Act (FIPPA).

This legal process was designed to ensure that all requests for access are treated fairly and objectively.

FIPPA/MFIPPA sets out that information should be made available to the public and that certain types of records, such as the personal privacy of others, trade secrets, lawyer-client privilege, etc., must be protected.

Before filing your request, you should contact the Risk Management Specialist or Communications & Executive Coordinator to determine whether it is necessary to submit a request.

How to Request Information

You can request access to general records or personal information (information about yourself), or request a correction to personal information using and submitting a completed FOI Request Form.

Please include a photocopy of a piece of identification (i.e. driver’s license) bearing your signature. This will allow DNSSAB staff to verify your identity and ensure your personal information is not disclosed to someone other than yourself.

If you are acting as an agent on someone else’s behalf, please include with the application a Consent to Release Form from that the individual signed and dated within the last year, authorizing you to act on their behalf, as well as a photocopy of a piece of his/her identification bearing a signature for verification purposes.

By FIPPA/MFIPPA, exclusions and exemptions may apply:

Processing Time

Except where an extension is necessary, all requests will be completed within 30 calendar days from the date of payment receipt. Note that FOI Requests are not started without payment and receipt of the $5.00 mandatory fee for access
