THE FOLLOWING ARE KEY COMPONENTS TO PROVIDE QUALITY PARAMEDIC SERVICES IN NIPISSING DISTRICT:

Nipissing Paramedic Service Providers and Paramedics

  • The service providers have 100+ highly skilled and trained Paramedics providing quality emergency medical services throughout the district.

Emergency First Response Teams (EFRT)

  • There are also EFRT volunteer members that operate in some of the rural areas of Nipissing District, including Nipissing North & South (unincorporated areas).
  • The EFRTs provide first aid and CPR where the need arises in order to keep the patient comfortable until the ambulance arrives on scene.

Ambulance Dispatch

  • The North Bay Central Ambulance Communications Centre provides emergency medical communications services 24 hours/day, 7 days/ week for an area of approximately 60,000 square kilometers (covering Nipissing, Parry Sound, and Temiskaming Districts).

Ambulance Bases and Fleet

  • There are five paramedic bases operating in Nipissing District: North Bay, Mattawa, West Nipissing, Temagami, and South Algonquin.
  • The bases have a combined fleet of 21 ambulance vehicles.

Fit2Sit

The program returns paramedics to the community as quickly as possible.

In June 2023, District of Nipissing Paramedic Services will be launching Fit2Sit, a pilot program in partnership with North Bay Regional Health Center. The Fit2Sit program allows paramedics to leave patients with non-life-threatening illnesses in the waiting room at North Bay Regional Health Center. Patients are monitored by hospital staff but sit on their own until a nurse or doctor can see them.

Having patients sit in a waiting room chair:

  • Frees up stretchers for others in need.
  • Allows paramedics to return to the community faster to respond to emergencies.
  • Makes the 911 process more efficient and cost effective. Paramedics no longer wait in the hallway with patients who are well enough to sit on their own.
